James Sweeps The Bord At WSOPE

The final table of the 2010 WSOPE has been played to a finish and it is the English who are celebrating as a popular UK based online poker player mounts a fight back to lift the prestigious crown.

Stanmore's 29-year-old James Bord fought off thousands of players at the 2010 European World Series of Poker held in London, including final table appearances from Phil Ivey and Viktor Blom, to scoop a whopping £830,000 but more importantly, his first WSOP gold bracelet.

Starting the final day with a chip stack that put him in fifth spot, he worked his way back to set up a heads-up against Italian poker player Fabrizio Baldassari. A poorly timed attact from Baldassari saw Bord go into a chip lead and when the Englishman's pair of ten's held up against a pair of fives, it was Bord who was crowned champion.

Speaking after his win, Bord was almost speechless...

'I never thought I would win a bracelet. Being so close, you just never know when it's going to come again. And it's even more special to win it in my hometown. It's just something very special.'

Bord joins some good company in winning the European World Series of Poker, including Barry Shulman, John Juanda and Annette Obrestad.
