Joey Cada wins the World Series of Poker!

Thousands of poker fans in Las Vegas are today cheering Joey Cada, as he wins the World Series of Poker and with it a massive $8.5m after a topsy turvy heads-up against Darwin Moon.

In what was an epic struggle, the 21-year-old from Michigan sat down at the start of the day with an almost 3:1 chip lead over his opponent. Add the fact that Cada was a seasoned high stakes online poker champ as well as a heads-up specialist, it was no wonder that the bookies had him as a massive favourite.

But amateur poker player and self-confessed online poker luddite Darwin Moon, a 46-year-old logger from Maryland, was quietly confident he could make a dent into Cada's chips - and he did just that.

With epic sized chip swings that echoed the previous day's play, Darwin clawed his was back to actually lead Cada by the same margin that he was previously behind. Darwin's strategy of betting big each time seemed to be paying off, until Moon went all-in with an open ended draw, against Cada's call of two pair holding out to get him back in the hunt.

Things finally came to a head when Cada pushed all-in with 9's, which Moon quickly called with Q J suited - and it was the young poker pro who held on to scoop with $8.5m prize.
