Online Betting Scramble for Tote

Some of the leading online betting sites are scrambling to get their mits on the Government's racecourse and online bookie, The Tote - following the announcement that the Old Nanny Goat would be sold off.

Whilst the list of online betting sites will not be named, according to Government sources, it is thought that the likes of BetFred, Paddy Power, SportingBet and Ladbrokes will all be in the hat for the final list of five book makers to be chosen by Whitehall.

The final five will then be invited to send in their final bids, along with proposals on what they would do with the national institution.

Many in the industry though are touting that The Tote should become an independent entity - a view shared with racecourses, owners and jockeys alike.

It is thought that a total of 20 bookies will be vying for the spoils, whittled down to five in the coming weeks.
