Records Broken as Top Poker Site Sold

A company has made the record books this week, after selling a top poker site URL for a record amount of money.

National A1 Advertising had the fortune to own the gaming domain Poker.Org - and after selling the website address to PokerCompany.com, it is now $1m richer. The fee is thought to be the highest amount ever paid for a dot org website name.

PokerCompany.com is not new to such domains, having already owned blackjack.org, craps.org and rakeback.org.

The $1m amount dwarves the $198,000 paid for the previous record for a dot org - that being engineering.org - but it is still a long way off from the biggest amount ever paid for an internet address. Poker.com was sold in 2008 for an estimated $25m.

It is thought that there are over seven million different dot org domain names registered on the web, with their original use due to be for non-profit companies and organisations.
