So Near, So Far at Bet Fred

UK bookie Bet Fred were giving a big sigh of relief this weekend, as it was revealed a regular shop punter 'did' himself out of over £170,000.

Malcom Harper of N. Yorks went into his local Bet Fred as usual, cheering on the horses that he had punted on - indeed his first horse romped home and as all bettors do, he started to count the winnings that could be.

When he finally worked out that if the other horses win, he was up for a £170,000 winfall, we was doing carwheels round the betting office.

Imagine the horror then as Malcom was asked by the betting shop manager why he was so excited? He reached into his pocket to check his slip, only to find the bet he thought he had placed, still in his pocket.

He then went on to watch all five horses romp home.

A philisophical father of one looked back on his 'win', ruing the fact he was so careless as to not actually place the bet.

'I’d been planning what I might spend my money on but when I discovered the slip was still in my pocket, I felt sick'.

Malcom's bet would have bagged him £142,282 for his £1 each Canadian (super yankee),  as well as a 20% bonus for getting all five right.
