Speidel Aces Down Under

A homegrown online poker player has aced down under this week, after scooping the prestigious Aussie Millions.

Online poker player Oliver Speidel, a 26-year-old from Melbourne, sat down to the main event at the Crown Casino, Melbourne - and five days later laid down pocket rockets, to scoop the top prize of $1.6M.

A total of over 650 players sat down for the event, which kicks-off the year every January. Speidel, who has been playing as a professional for the past three years, saw off fellow professional Ken Wong at the final table heads-up - who laid down 9-9, versus Speidel's A-A.

After finally calming down, Speidel said that his massive win was something exhilarating and he was in disbelief that he had won. He continued to say that he would put his winnings to good use, by buying an appartment in his hometown, Melbourne; as well as using the balance to buy in for more prestigious tournaments across Australia.

Speidel is just the latest online poker player to take down the Aussie gong, following in the footsteps of Gus Hansen, Tony Bloom and Peter Costa.
