Supercomputer Perfects Online Poker

A report by the BBC this morning has revealed that scientists in the United States have developed a computer programme that perfects the game of online poker, after trials revealed that zero mistakes were being made by the Supercomputer.

In what must be a chilling tale for many online poker rooms, the guys running the experiment have told Science Journal that the computer mastered the games of both texas hold 'em and pot-limit heads-up - with a stratetgy so close to perfection, it would not be beaten over a lifetime.

Whilst trialing computers to beat humans in games such as chess has been well documented, playing online poker by one is different as the beauty of the game is all in not knowing what cards your opponents hold.

The trials for this experiment however negate this inconvenience, by being programmed to play trillions upon trillions of hands, each time learning from mistakes made by noting particular 'regrets' - decisions the computer made that did not lead to the best outcome possible.

A spokesman from the University of Alberta said of the findings...

'Our model has spent two months playing poker again and again - it's playing 24 trillion hands of poker every second for two months. That's more poker hands than all of humanity - so in some sense it's not surprising that it has developed the perfect strategy.'

The news will irk many a poker player around the world either plying their trade as professional online poker players, or the millions of players who play just for fun. When asked what he thought these players may think of his findings, he replied...

'I have no idea. We'll have to see how much hate email I'll be getting come Thursday afternoon!'

Many an online poker room will be quaking in their boots, no doubt.

Think you can beat the supercomputer? Test it out for yourself!!
