UK Bookie Says No To France

One of the biggest online bookies in the UK has finally called time on a proposed joint venture that would have seen them entering the newly regulated French market.

Harrow based bookmaker Ladbrokes had initially joined forces with French sports channel Canal+ in what would have been a dream partnership between bookmaking and live sports content.

However upon reflection the UK casino and bookmaker felt the tax implications involved in such a move made the venture not viable.

A spokesman for the company said of the deal...

'Together with our partners we have concluded that the French market is now taxed at such a prohibitive level that it does not represent an attractive investment. We will continue to monitor the French marketplace but for the time being will not progress with the launch plans.'

Five months on and the French Market continues to be an elusive place for many if the best uk bookies, following Sportingbet's decision to not enter, as well as William Hill and Paddy Power.
