William Hill Hangs Up UK Phone Business

One of the biggest uk bookmakers has announced that they will soon be moving their telephone betting business to the Rock of Gibraltar.

Leeds based uk bookie William Hill will relocate all of their phone business, in conjunction with a third party - named as Vertex - a leading customer management company.

As a result their current Sheffield-based phone company, William Hill Credit Ltd, will close it's doors later this year. But it is hoped the move will result in an improved service for customers - including online bets being able to made from customer phone accounts.

A spokesman for William Hill said of the move...

"William Hill continues to have a substantial presence in the UK and Ireland, including more than 2,300 licensed betting offices and around 16,000 employees. It paid £265m in UK taxes and levies last year."

It is expected that William Hill's phone business will make a small loss in the first half of 2010, following a £1.8m loss in 2009.
